Preseli Barn
Pembrokeshire stone barn transformed into a luxurious retreat with traditional timber framing.
The Brief: Crafting Preseli Barn
In the heart of the picturesque Preseli Hills of Pembrokeshire, our latest project involved the transformation of a traditional stone barn into a high-end addition for a flourishing glamping site. This barn conversion was conceptualised not just as a mere extension but as a pivotal element in the farm’s diversification strategy. Our mission was to infuse this rustic structure with elegance and functionality, ensuring it serves as a captivating retreat that complements the site’s natural beauty and successful glamping offerings.
The Story Behind the Design
The design of the barn conversion is anchored in the use of A-frames, featuring curved and chamfered king and queen posts crafted from Douglas Fir. This choice was intentional, aiming to highlight the structural beauty and warmth of traditional timber framing while introducing a touch of elegance and sophistication to the interior space. The design serves as a focal point for the room, creating an atmosphere that is both inviting and aesthetically pleasing, blending seamlessly with the barn’s original stone character and the surrounding rural landscape.
The Construction Process: Realising the Vision
The construction process was a meticulous endeavour that involved transforming the robust stone barn into a refined space suitable for the high-end glamping clientele. Utilising Douglas Fir for the A-frames not only paid homage to traditional construction methods but also ensured the durability and aesthetic appeal of the structure. Special attention was given to the intricate details of the curved and chamfered king and queen posts, ensuring they stood out as the room’s focal point. This barn conversion in the Preseli Hills stands as a testament to our dedication to preserving heritage while embracing innovation, offering guests an unparalleled experience that bridges the gap between rustic charm and modern luxury.
