Makers Mark Joinery is excited to share the successful construction of a traditional timber frame barn in the scenic landscapes of West Wales. Crafted using Douglas Fir, the barn embodies the charm of post and beam construction, reflecting our dedication to time-honored craftsmanship.
Designed with both efficiency and authenticity in mind, our team created pre-fabricated clad side panels, ensuring a quick on-site assembly. This barn, located in a coastal area, stands resilient against the elements, a true fusion of form and function.
Our sustainable approach is evident through the use of saddle stones to bear the weight of the posts, a choice that reduces concrete usage and aligns with our eco-friendly principles. The barn stands as a testament to our holistic involvement – from design and fabrication to final assembly – showcasing our commitment to melding tradition and innovation.
In addition to our ongoing commitment to craftsmanship and sustainability, the timber frame barn project in West Wales serves as a testament to our adaptability and versatility. The challenges posed by the coastal environment of the project site inspired us to develop innovative solutions that harmonise with the natural surroundings.
For this unique project, our team carefully selected and treated the Douglas Fir timber to withstand the salt-laden coastal air, ensuring not only structural integrity but also longevity. The result is a timber frame barn that not only stands strong against the elements but also seamlessly blends into the picturesque landscape of West Wales.
Whenever possible, we sourced materials locally to minimise transportation-related carbon emissions. Beyond the roof, we utilised locally harvested timber for structural components and interior finishes, further supporting the regional economy and reducing the barn’s carbon footprint.
To minimise disruption to the natural terrain and reduce the use of concrete, we employed a low-impact foundation design. This approach ensures the barn’s stability while leaving a minimal environmental footprint.
These sustainable practices demonstrate our dedication to responsible construction and our ambition to create timber frame structures that not only stand the test of time but also minimise their environmental impact.
