Ty Sanctaidd Roundhouse: Inspired by Nature

Nestled in the breathtaking coastal landscape, Ty Sanctaidd Roundhouse is a stunning masterpiece of modern and traditional design.

About this Project

As makers of unique and sustainable buildings, we always welcome a new challenge. When our clients approached us with a dream of a large and spacious roundhouse nestled in the picturesque coastal surroundings of Wales, we were thrilled to take on this project. The brief called for a structure that was not only breathtaking in appearance but also sustainable in its design and construction.

Our team worked closely with the clients and Catalina Architects to create a design that blended traditional timber framing techniques with modern methods to achieve a stunning and impressive 20m diameter roundhouse. The construction incorporated custom-made glu-lam beams and concealed structural steelwork, allowing us to create a unique and breathtaking structure that will remain a testament to our clients’ vision and our commitment to sustainable design for years to come.

We put our heart and soul into every aspect of the project, from designing and prefabricating the building in our workshop to transporting it to the site, and raising the frame. We’re delighted to see the building nearing completion, and we can’t wait for the community and event space to open its doors in spring 2022, offering a stunning and intimate space for all who enter.

Ty Sanctaidd Roundhouse is a true marvel of sustainable architecture, blending traditional timber framing techniques with modern construction methods to create a stunning structure that embraces the Fibonacci spiral, a naturally occurring shape that is found throughout the natural world. Our team of skilled craftsmen worked tirelessly to ensure that the concentric circles of the 20-meter diameter roundhouse were precisely joined to create a seamless and cohesive whole.

To maintain our commitment to sustainability, we utilized eco-friendly materials, including custom-made glu-lam beams and locally sourced timber. We also paid close attention to the energy efficiency of the building, incorporating sustainable insulation materials and passive solar design elements.

At the heart of this project is a deep respect for the natural environment. We worked closely with the landscape and surrounding ecosystem to create a building that harmoniously nestles into its coastal surroundings, celebrating the beauty of the natural world in both form and function.
